Exploring London: A whirlwind of history, culture, and delicious food

London is a city that demands to be explored, and we did just that in a lightning-fast four days. For a city this big, I’d recommend more time. Join us on a journey through our itinerary, which included everything from Westminster Abbey to authentic fish and chips, all before a late-night flight to Naples. We recently had the pleasure of spending our last two whirlwind days in this incredible city, and let me tell you, we didn’t waste a single minute. From world-class museums to historic cathedrals and delicious food, our London adventure was an unforgettable experience. To read about our first two days in London, click here.

A Walk Through History (and 20,000 steps)!

Our first day was a marathon of iconic sights, and our step counters can prove it! We started our morning at the magnificent Natural History Museum. The stunning architecture and incredible exhibits, including the famous blue whale skeleton, were truly awe-inspiring.

From there, we took a stroll through the upscale Knightsbridge neighborhood to the world-renowned department store, Harrods. It’s more than just a store; it’s a sensory experience, with its opulent Food Hall and elaborate displays. Despite my VERY thrifty nature, I found myself liking this store WAAAAAYYY more than I had imagined!

Next, we journeyed to the heart of the city to see the architectural masterpiece that is Westminster Abbey. Pro-tip: while this attraction is completely free, you MUST get tickets far in advance. Because of this, we were only able to see it from the outside. Just a short walk away, we caught our first glimpse of the Elizabeth Tower, home to the iconic Big Ben. Seeing this famous landmark in person is a must-do for any first-time visitor.

As the day progressed, we found ourselves in need of a well-deserved break. We found Kylie’s bucket list destination, called the Rhumm Tavern, a cozy pub with a classic London atmosphere. A few fun mocktails and a moment of rest were just what we needed before continuing our adventure.

Our final stop of the day was the elegant Fortnum & Mason. Known for its exquisite tea, hampers (curated gift baskets filled with teas, biscuits, scones and jams), and delightful treats, it was the perfect place to pick up a few souvenirs.

We wrapped up our epic day at Caffe Concerto, where we indulged in the most incredible gelato we’ve ever had. It was the perfect sweet ending to a very busy day. After clocking in over 20,000 steps, we were more than ready to head back to our comfortable room at the Hyatt Regency Blackfriars for a well-deserved night’s rest.

Palaces, Bridges, and Temporary Farewells

We woke up refreshed and ready for another day of exploration. Our first stop was Kensington Palace, a royal residence with a fascinating history. Walking through the beautiful gardens and learning about the lives of the royals was a fantastic start to our day.

Next, we made our way to the majestic Tower Bridge. This iconic landmark is even more impressive up close. We took countless photos and marveled at the engineering feat.

Our sightseeing had worked up an appetite, so we stopped for lunch at the charming Old Thameside Inn. We feasted on authentic British pub food, including classic fish and chips, savory bangers and mash, and a delicious chicken schnitzel. It was the perfect, hearty meal to fuel our final hours in London.

With our flight to Naples on British Airways looming, we had to squeeze in as much as we could. We soaked up the final moments of London’s vibrant energy before heading to the airport, filled with incredible memories and a promise to return.

Our four days in London were an absolute whirlwind of history, culture, and unforgettable experiences. From the grandeur of the museums to the charm of the pubs and the delicious food, London truly captured our hearts. It was the perfect start to our European vacation.
