Hawaii Adventure – Day 3

Hawaii Adventure – Day 3

We began Day 3 at Leonard’s Bakery, where we were told that we HAD to try the Malasadas. Hot, delicious, gooey Portuguese donuts full of Bavarian cream!

After a delicious sugar filled breakfast, we headed for Pearl Harbor, where we spent a large part of our day at the U.S.S. Missouri, a sobering and overwhelming stop on our 14-day adventure. Listening to the tour guides share the stories of soldiers, families, civilians and airman, you feel an unbelievable sense of respect, and a need to honor those souls still buried within the confines of the U.S.S. Arizona. Oil still leaks into the water from the wreckage, and it is said that it will continue to cry “black tears” until all the remaining survivors have passed away, joining their comrades forever.

After leaving the “Mighty Mo” and the U.S.S. Arizona Memorial, we headed for the North Shore, where we drove through Kanaohe, saw Kuoloa Ranch, where they filmed Jurassic Park, saw Chinaman’s Hat, and ate lunch at Pounders. We had driven up to visit the Polynesian Cultural Center, which was high on the bucket list, but realized when we arrived that we really needed a full day (and it also began to rain). This is at the tippy top of our return to-do list.

It’s a beautiful drive up to the North Shore.

In the evening we headed down to Waikiki Beach to walk along the famous shore and enjoy the beautiful fireworks display at the Hilton Hawaiian Village. After the fireworks show, there was an impromptu fire dancing show right on the beach – it was incredible and made for some fabulous video footage for Braden. Another beautiful day in paradise. We are grateful and overwhelmed by this blessing from God.
